Clover Kids:  NEED LEADER

Clover Kids is for those kids interested in 4-H but are not yet 9.  Clover kids can enter some of the same competitions as 4-H members.

Dog /Companion Animals (Need a Leader)

Foods and Nutrition: Tammy Duke /Bill Esposito

Project includes learning about all aspects of Foods and Nutrition – from basic cooking skills to nutrition to food safety to careers in the food industry.  Opportunities to showcase what you have learned in the Collin County Foodshow as well as Food Challenge (i.e. Iron Chef type of completion) or Food Quiz Bowl.  Members can also enter in the Collin County Youth Fair (in January) and the State Fair Cooking Competitions (such as Ice Cream Crank Off, Kid’s Cooking Competition).

Horse/Hippology : Don

Various activities in the Horse Project include Hippology which is the study of horses and there are a couple of different competitions to show off your knowledge. Horse Judging –were participants will learn the how to judge horses based on confirmation and riders skills. Of course, if you have a horse, there are numerous 4-H Horse Shows that you can participate in.

Leadership –Kathrin Esposito/Tammy Duke

Even if you aren’t an officer in the club, there are many opportunities to learn and hone leadership skills –from leading the pledge at the meetings to reporting on project meetings, to publicizing upcoming events at school to helping plan upcoming meetings.  You can also get involved at the County level by attending the Collin County Council (every 1st Monday at 7 pm) or attend various leadership training events on the county, district or state level.

Photography: Tammy Duke

Grab a Camera (film or digital) and learn about your camera and taking great photos – from composition to lighting to focus.   Members can enter various photography competitions including Collin County, District 4 and State Fair among others.   Any photographs taken from March 1 of 2010 are eligible for the spring 2011 competitions.    If interested, can also serve as club photographer, documenting club & project meetings.

Public Speaking:  Kathrin Esposito

Public Speaking is a powerful skill that builds confidence and self esteem and prepares you for the job market. We have informal public speaking opportunities throughout the year and encourage members to speak up! In addition, most of the other projects have some level of presentation. There is a competition specific to public speaking that members are encouraged to participate in. You can do this project as an individual or a team and the topic can be anything –so we make it a lot of fun.

Rabbits – Steve Duke

Learn about all aspects of raising rabbits from breed selection, to handling, to feeding , to breeding to showing.  You do not have to have a rabbit to join just an interest in learning more about rabbits.   If interested there are numerous ‘local’ rabbit shows where one can learn more about showing rabbits.  The State Rabbit Extravaganza is held in November in Killeen and includes a rabbit show as well as various youth competitions including showmanship, youth judging, breed identification, photography contest, posterboard contest, creative arts contest.
